Arriving in Varanasi without the first hour going wrong
· 4 min read

Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport is at Babatpur, roughly 26 km northwest of Varanasi. The drive takes 45 minutes to an hour and a quarter. For a group arriving together — a family, a corporate delegation, guests coming in for a wedding — it is the first shared experience of the trip.
What it costs
| Vehicle | Seats | Luggage | Airport transfer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Force Urbania 17 | 17 | 10 bags | ₹2,799 |
| Maharaja Urbania 9 | 9 | 8 bags | ₹3,499 |
The 9-seater costs more than the 17-seater despite carrying fewer people, which surprises people until they see the interior: nine full-recline captain chairs and a centre table in a body built for seventeen.
Why the Urbania suits the airport run specifically
- The low floor step, which matters when elders are boarding after a long flight.
- Luggage that goes in a bay rather than on laps — ten bags in the 17-seater.
- A cabin quiet enough to hold a conversation, which a leaf-sprung tempo traveller is not.
- Individual AC vents, which matter in May and June more than any other feature.
If you are arriving for a multi-day trip, price the transfer and the trip together. A vehicle that collects you and stays with you costs less than a transfer plus a fresh booking the next morning.
Timing
Land before 09:00 and you reach the city ahead of the traffic. Between 17:00 and 20:00 the Cantt and Godowlia approaches slow badly — a run that takes 50 minutes at noon can take 80. If you want the same-evening Ganga aarti, land before 15:00.
Night arrivals
Pickups between 11pm and 6am carry the driver allowance a second time — ₹400 for the 17-seater, ₹600 for the Maharaja. That is the whole of the night surcharge. Any operator quoting a doubled fare for a night landing is inventing it.
The driver waits inside the terminal for international arrivals and at the kerb for domestic, unless you ask otherwise. Airport parking is charged at actuals, with the receipt.
Common questions
- How much is a luxury airport transfer in Varanasi?

- About 26 km to the ghat area and 22 km to the Cantt hotels. Allow 45 to 75 minutes depending on the hour; the 17:00 to 20:00 window is the slowest.
- Is there a night surcharge for airport pickups?
- The driver allowance is charged a second time for pickups between 11pm and 6am — ₹400 for the Force Urbania, ₹600 for the Maharaja. The base fare does not change.
