Travelling with elders

Most families booking for elders focus on seat comfort. In practice the deciding factors are the height of the step, how often the vehicle has to be boarded, and how far the walk is at the other end — and only the first two are things a vehicle can fix.

A Maharaja Urbania luxury van, chosen for its low floor step when travelling with elderly pilgrims

What we would put you in

Maharaja Urbania — 9 Seater37/km · ₹7,499 for 12 hrs

Nine full-recline seats with real space between them, so a five-hour leg to Bodhgaya is rest rather than endurance. For a larger family the 17-seater has the same step height and suspension.

Why the Urbania here

  • Low floor step — the single most useful feature when boarding fifteen times a day
  • Air suspension absorbs the broken sections that make a leaf-sprung vehicle punishing
  • Full-recline seating on the 9-seater, so rest is possible between stops
  • Quiet cabin, which matters for anyone hard of hearing trying to follow a conversation

When it is not worth it

It cannot shorten the walk. Kashi Vishwanath is a ten-minute walk from Godowlia for everybody, the ghats are stone steps, and Dev Deepawali means twenty to forty minutes on foot. If walking is the constraint, the vehicle is not the thing to spend on — a Sugam Darshan slot that cuts a three-hour queue is.

Worth knowing

Plan around the queue, not the drive

General darshan at Kashi Vishwanath runs three to six hours on a weekend. For elders that is the hard part of the day. Book a slot on the temple trust portal and tell us the time.

Which stops need no walking

Sankat Mochan, Durga Kund, Tulsi Manas and Sarnath all have parking at the entrance. Kashi Vishwanath, Annapurna and the ghats do not.

A boat is easier than the steps

For the evening aarti, a boat means boarding once rather than descending and climbing ghat steps in a crowd after dark.

Questions

Which vehicle is best for elderly travellers in Varanasi?
A Force Urbania, for the low floor step and air suspension rather than the seats. The 9-seat Maharaja adds full-recline seating for long outstation legs. Both are markedly easier to board than a standard tempo traveller.
How far do elderly visitors have to walk at Kashi Vishwanath?
About ten minutes each way from Godowlia crossing through Vishwanath Gali. No vehicle of any size gets closer — it is a municipal restriction on the old city, not something an operator can arrange around.
Can you arrange wheelchair access?
The Urbania's low step helps with boarding but neither van is a wheelchair-lift vehicle, and the old-city lanes are not wheelchair-navigable. Tell us the specific need and we will say plainly what is and is not possible rather than promise it.
